Grove Street Advisors (GSA) is a rapidly growing private equity advisory firm formed in 1998 that manages large, custom tailored (dedicated) accounts for major institutional investors. GSA brings a powerful, proven approach to the business of identifying and gaining access to the most successful private equity funds, made possible by the extensive private equity relationships and operating experience of its senior professionals. GSA currently manages over $4.5 billion for eight large clients (primarily US and international pensions). Each client program is structured as a customized account where GSA has discretion over investment decisions within the client’s specified area of focus. Taken together, GSA’s programs target the full range of private equity funds, both US and international, including venture capital, buyouts and special situations. Although a relatively new firm, GSA has already built an outstanding track record, investing with more than 100 high quality private equity management teams. The company currently has one office, located in Wellesley, Massachusetts, six General Partners and a total staff of 30.
The firm is seeking to hire 1-2 Associates who will report directly to the Partners of the firm and work alongside the firm’s other Associates. The primary focus of the position is supporting the firm’s core fund investment activities.

Responsibilities: |
|
On a day-to-day basis, the individual will initially be responsible for screening fund investment opportunities, attending presentations by prospective fund GPs, evaluating the trajectory of unrealized portfolio companies through research and due diligence calls with portfolio CEOs and co-investors, evaluating partnership agreements, monitoring investment performance and undertaking general industry analysis. Specific responsibilities include:
- Assisting GSA’s Partners and Principals in obtaining and reviewing fund marketing materials to understand investment strategies and prior investment performance of investment managers.
- Conducting due diligence phone calls and prior fund analysis as part of the investment decision and discussing these results at GSA’s Investment Committee meetings.
- Analyzing private equity industry trends and changing characteristics in client portfolios and creating presentations for periodic client meetings.
Over time Associates will be expected to take a leadership role in analysis of specific investment opportunities and will build direct relationships with the fund management teams in the portfolio.

Qualifications: |

This position is ideally designed for a candidate who has completed a Bachelor’s degree from a top tier undergraduate program and has 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience (e.g. private equity, management consulting, investment banking, investment management or small company/ entrepreneurial). The individual should have the ability to build good personal relationships and work closely and credibly with the firm’s partners and senior clients.
This individual should be a self-starter and a leader with the ability to motivate others within a small, rapidly growing firm. He/she should have strong analytical and communication skills, both oral and written. This is 2 year commitment to a pre-MBA position that will provide extensive exposure to the basic skills and networks of the private equity industry. “Graduates” of the GSA Associate program have gone on to complete MBAs at Harvard, Wharton and UC Berkeley.
